For the needs you've specified, an i7 is completely unnecessary (and expensive). Here's a build with an SSD, a 970 (which is more than you'll need for the games you're running), and a good monitor (which is currently 34% off on Newegg). And it comes in in the middle of your budget range.

I will also chime in and state that you don't need an i7 and explain why.

An i5 and i7 are essentially identical processors. The difference is, the i7 comes with a slightly higher base clock [which just means you'd have to change your i5 clock by .1 ghz to get it to be the same]

The i7 also has a feature called hyper threading, which basically turns 1 of the cores into a simulated 2 core. This is great for applications that can use this technology such as many high end professional applications that have to do with various forms of encoding.

Video games however do not use this technology, so literally you'd be getting a 100-150 dollar feature for no benefit. With your relatively small cash budget [small for i7] and even smaller requirement window [my toaster can run those games] I would definitely bump down to an i5.

Since you keep refernecing cars let me put it in this perspective. But in the end it's your money idc what u do with it. What you're saying right there is you want a honking v8 in a car that is only going to see easy highway miles and a 4-6cyl would be far better for the money and end up saving u money. And you would get the same performance
