XFX R9 290x for $375.49 from Best Buy and also on Amazon for $379.

No. You can get 290x's for $100 less than that.

Also, a 970 would also use less power than my 760, so I wouldn't need a psu. Do you think a 970 would be a big upgrade over a 760?

A 970 would be a big upgrade over a 760. The 970 will get ~53 FPS on ultra.

if the most recent computex rumors are true, theyll be depressing.

Also that optimize feature on Nvidia isn't always good. I would recommend you find a tweaking guide online and do it manually.

They'll perform similarly at 1920x1080 once the cards are overclocked. The 290x should beat it out of the box, but not by very much.

As for the AMD 300 series:
IIRC, the 380/x are just rebranded 290/x but with 8GB memory and higher clock speeds. Only the 390 and 390x are new chips.
