I'd keep the 2500K, get a better mobo (better heatsinks and power circuits), switch to AIO water cooler and OC the 2500K to 4.7Ghz or so. I 'd switch to a GTX 970 or better.

Then you should be OK, for another year or so....just in time for ALL the new improved hardware....then you can relax for another 3 years or so.

I can probably manage to hold off on upgrading until next April when I go down to Florida and do my shopping at micro centre they always have great deals.

give me some mobo ideas though

Looks like DDR4/
Skylake will be available later this year

GPU not until next year sometime

X99 motherboards are already out. Skylake CPUs are not. Skylake is LGA 1151 which is not on X99 boards. LGA 1151 will be available with B150, H110, H170, Q150, Q170, and Z170 chipsets.
