tbh i skimmed through your first post lol

Unfortunately there's about a $150-200 price tag along with the g-sync hardware.. But as someone who currently has a g-sync monitor i have to say, It is WELL worth it. Especially when you start getting into higher resolutions that tend to have fps fluctuations.

Afaik the curved acer is supposed to release early august & will be around $1,200 not $1,400.

It is a tough call. G-Sync does sound awesome and that monitor has everything I want. The price is a killer, especially with sales tax making its true cost over $1300. I could buy a GTX 980 & the ROG Swift together today for cheaper, and the 34UM95 & GTX 980 would be similarly priced. Add in the availability issues most new top-end gaming monitors have had in recent years, and then the quality control issues those monitors have faced. First batch of 34UM95s had terrible, terrible light bleed, and the ROG Swift's troubles are well documented, among other monitor issues. I feel I need to make a purchase sometime in late May, early June, and get gaming again and working on my thesis. I could foresee a nightmare scenario of waiting until November to buy an available curved ACER G-Sync 21:9 monitor and paying a ton for it, not being able to use it as much right away because I'll be in the last throes of graduate school, and paying a ton of money for it and a graphics card and everything else.

Which monitor do you use?

Yea, I understand. Always seems that something better is right around the corner though, Makes things hard to buy sometimes.

Placed order today, should arrive Friday:

34UM95

EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0

Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD

Ended up going with the EVGA card over the Gigabyte Windforce because the cooling system on the EVGA card requires less wattage (500W) in the power supply than the Gigabyte (600W). Although my power supply is 650 W, it is 2.5 years old and has probably 6-7,000 hours of use, so what it actually puts out today is a mystery. Additionally, the most intensive games I may play are Wildstar, BF4, or similar games, so I don't need the crazy cooling system because the GTX 980 with this minimal overclock should be quite enough.

Samsung SSD was cheaper than $100, which is a steal. I've been using a 120 GB SSD for the past couple years (Samsung 830 EVO) and cycling games on/off, so adding 250 GB to that will be nice.

And, of course, the awesome monitor.

The cooler on the windforce is just saying it can cool up to a 600w draw. Aka a better cooler than the evga.

The windforce also is one of the better oc'ing 980's.

In retrospect I probably should have went with the Gigabyte card then. I am using a Gigabyte Windforce 670 now and it has worked well I have used EVGA cards before and they've worked well. EVGA offers great support, too, and if the TI gets released over the summer I have an opportunity to do the step-up program.

For normal use its all about the same tbh. Unless you heavily overclock. As long as temps are fine~

All of the stuff came today, and I installed everything without a hitch.

I'm happy with the graphics card. I didn't consider it at the time, but I would have been in a pickle with the Gigabyte card. Because of the Windforce cooling, the Gigabyte cards are .7" taller and 1.7" longer than the EVGA card, which would have cut off access to the 2nd 6.0 Gb/s Sata connector on my MB. I only barely managed to get the SSD hooked up with the EVGA card in.

The monitor is the real deal. Mine has a little bit of backlight bleed in the corners, but with the brightness turned down to 70 it is only faintly noticeable on even a lit black screen. The monitor was larger than I anticipated, and I had chills for the first hour of using it. It is like a command station, and the pictures don't do it justice. I can play League and go mid lane, everything the same size as it was on my 21.5" 1080p monitor, but I can see a ways into the river on both sides and way the hell down the lane.

The sharpness of picture and the depth of color is unbelievable. I'm seeing lots of colors I did not know existed. The GTX 980 is fast enough that all of the games I've tried so far, though they're not very graphics intensive, have been incredibly fluid. WoW runs like a dream with everything set at ultra, even running MSAA x4, and the render feature up a bit. I just installed Wildstar, actually, but haven't tried it out yet.

To top it off, I got a new computer chair!
