Depends on what you're doing, but you can end the discussion by spending $100 more for an i7-4970k on the Intel build and selling the 8350.

Alternatively, you could go for a blue build....

Right right, I use it mostly for gaming, WoW, D3, CSS, and I want to open the doors to just about any game I want to play w'o too many hiccups, including the upcoming Witcher 3, and my current GTX 760 has treated me well so far so I'm looking forward to a 970 :)
I run multiple screens and plan to overclock for some fun.
Other than that it's pretty general usage, some streaming possibly but that won't be an issue as my current rig seems to do so just fine.

I had somewhat of a black / blue build from before and I'd like to go the red / black route this time around.
The i7-4970k is GG then? That what you're sayin'?

I also plan on stepping up to a higher refresh rate monitor as well, and I'll be running a 55" LG 1080p (replacing my current 42" 780p) as another monitor for movies and whatnot, some games too :)

The way i look at it, and im no expert, but if youre spending under $1000, cant go wrong with either intel or amd, but if youre going over $1000, it should 9/10 be intel

thats how i look at it

I'm no expert either and I've been happy with AMD thus far. But I'm not particular to one or the other, maybe I will be after using an Intel CPU though, they're talked up pretty big ^_^
I'm looking to spend no more than $1,500 for my upgrades and this new setup I won't touch for years to come ideally. Future-proofing is unrealistic but I just want to keep my options open for any game I want to play and run it well :)

It depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you purchase the the i7, there's a good chance you're going to stick with it for a really long time, and the only part you'll be changing is the GPU.

I'm gonna stick with my 8350 and o/c see what happens. I can't imagine it would bottleneck my 970 and that'd be my biggest concern.

I can spend a decent amount but I don't want to unless I "need" to. I'm keeping a few things and I'll build around my 8350 and the 970 :)

Question as well, is there any particular reason you didn't pick the Twin Frozr edition of MSI's 970 in that Intel build? I'm just curious, I'm sure I'd be satisfied with any 970 but I'm planning on the Twin Frozr along with it's aesthetics.

That Asus card does look really nice though...

I like both those builds too, aside from keeping the 8350, say I go dual SLI down the road, will that Corsair 760 PSU suffice?

With currents available cards yes, especially if u plan to SLI the 970s.
With future GPU's, can't really say since nobody knows the future.
They might come out with some beast that can handle 4k gaming eyefinity at 60fps stable but are power hungry mofos with 500 tdp on each gpu. Ofc I may be exaggerating, but u get the point.

As much as I like that Corsair PSU, I'd personally go for the EVGA 850w gold, cos superflower is a gg oem like seasonic, backed by evga's 10yr warranty and customer service. I own both psus, and they are quiet af!

Ha yep I got you. I do plan on goin' SLI and these will do the trick for quite some time I'm sure.

In regards to the PSU, you talkin' like this guy? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20850xr

e/ what's your take on this SSD? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233743 It's probably too new to tell yet but I'm considering it, looks nice. Black and red too ^_^

Corsair doesn't always make the best stuff, but ALL their stuff is gfg.

If that SSD lives up to it's specs, and doesn't have controller or NAND issues...it should be one of the top tier ones. Best of all ya got 3 years to find out if it's worth it.
Specs wise it's one of the better ones. ??

You can always compare it to others...here:

Well like I said I'm waiting until around President's Day to see what prices do. That could be the deciding factor for some "less significant" parts. So we'll see :)
They seem fairly comparable but at that price I would probably go Samsung...
And yes I think I'd be quite happy with Corsair products ^_^
