On a side note....the human eye can't even respond to any thing under 7ms.
Not sure anyone knows how it works specifically. My eye could recognize things every 7ms, so if my monitor refreshes every 8ms I could potentially not even register a response until 21ms out, at which point it is 5ms off reality. If my monitor refreshes each ms, then it doesn't matter when my eye sees the content or the rate in which my eye processes how often it sees content because it'll always be up to date. Would that have an effect in gaming? It might affect 1 or 2 actions over a long period of time, like an hour, but I agree that there probably won't be amazing benefits and I was a bit zealous earlier.
I'm still leaning towards the ROG Swift right now. A lot of the issues people have had with the monitor appear to be clearing up with recent manufacturing & newer nVidia drivers. Though most places appear to be out of it, Best Buy offers it online and has it in stock. If the monitor does have issues, I could just drive it to the local Best Buy and at return it there rather than RMAing it off for a 1-2 month process.
Another option is to just wait. I'm hesitant on a MBP because Apple could release new ones this year at the same price points as the ones available now. Maybe more G-Sync options will be released in the coming months & monitors like the ASUS ROG Swift will either decrease in price or become more reliable quality-wise. However, I did win $300 at the casino last night, so I'm just going to stop by Best Buy later today and snag a Samsung Evo 850 and consider that upgrade done. =D
