if i look up a specific graphic chip, how do i know which thing to buy? like theres about 100 970s made by msi or i could get one by gigabyte ect

also do i need to look for one with like 2 gb of ram or something, and what does ram do on a gpu anyway?

i need to know this stuff :{

very broadly, all 970's are equivalent, as all 290's are etc.
Cooling and temps will be different across brands, but for the most part its not like you will have to try really hard to pick between an Asus 970 and an MSI 970.

VRAM isn't really a huge concern. I'm not a big expert on it, from what i understand you would mostly be fine with 2gb of Vram, though expensive cards come with 3-4 pretty standard.
also some games have been ramping up how much vram they use, im not educated enough to know if that should impact your decision though or if it will become a serious consideration.

AA & Higher resolution / More monitors use more vram.

For a one monitor, 1080p setup.. 3gb is plenty good enough

Could get by with 2gb, But might run into issues with certain games / not future proof.
