Honestly, you would need a spare psu/gpu, to find out which one is really causing the problem. The hive should be more than enough to power your system.  Although,  I had a very similar problem with that exact same mobo/cpu too,  :P
After I got a new mobo, it fixed that weird problem.

So it might be the Mobo?

thanks!

Do you try to run the GPU without plugging in any displays?

yes. I tried with nothing plugged in but the power cord to the psu (from the socket outside the rig for clarification)

Can it be that my PSU is ded at least partway?

Or is a Mobo problem a good possibility also?

Could be gpu, mobo, psu or any combination of the 3 [though not too likely].
Without another PSU or GPU to test, too hard to tell. I Don't spose you have a spare GPU, psu or 2nd computer lying around?

or some fucked up bios setting

no, will end up bringing it to the local mom&pop shop near me to have it looked at. I have no spare parts to test with.

it flashes all the lights that are on when my rig is on normally (fan lights that are blue , etc ) but nothing starts spinning or anything. Those lights flash and then nothing happens.

Might try resetting the BIOS to defaults, either with the jumper or by removing the CMOS battery.

How old is it? Where did you buy it? Most online sites keep invoices online and you can prove purchase that way.
