honestly i don't know shit about the 960, but what i do know is i used a 660 + anthlon II x3 440 and 4GB ram on crysis 3, ultra with no AA ( could do 2x AA but wanted smoother gameplay ) and it ran just fine. was pretty damn playable. so, fast foward to generations later and a non-retarded cpu and i can honestly say he will be FINE.

you can play most games on a 960 with very high / ultra, maybe some new demanding games will need to tune down AA but that's something he has to decide on. if OP wants to "future proof" a little for the year, sure a 970 will be better. but for WoW and most games ( unless we're talking about the witcher 3 or metro ) he will be perfectly fine.

that's just my two cents.

but like you said, it's a skimmed down 970, so he could just OC what ever he can out of it and have 970 performance or close to it.

i'm going off of MY 660. a 960, two generations later, is going to do better. and with a 660, it can already handle plenty. i mainly said that shit about being skimmed down because ghot over here called it a gimped 970. his words not mine.

Post any valid specs on a 960.


Then think about the past...660, 760 etc....weren't all that.
