Oh yeah, I know. The 58xx series is 2011-3 only and is supported by the x99 chipset. My post was about Broadwell-K processors (due Q2 next year) and they will wit into LGA 1150 sockets with Z97 and H97 chipset support. Now, whether or not Broadwell will be better than Haswell is still a mystery, it will work on Z97 boards.

Also, we all know that there is no such thing as "future-proofing" when it comes to PC hardware.

As we have all learned...some site leaks some Intel info, and Intel then changes things. ;)

/e But, as I said, I think everyone should wait till the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2015, before taking the plunge.

I'd go for 1150 gaming wise, 2011-3 makes sense only as workstations. The performance gains will be negligible considering the difference in price. I've chosen Z97 board with temporary g3258 and I'm quite happy with the performance (faster in Farcry 4 than Q9550 @ 4.2 with the same GPU - 560ti). Will upgrade either to an i5-4690k or Broadwell if it's supported.

Yeah with all the comments here and with reading up more Ive decided to step away from the 2011-3...
Next year there is gonna be broadwell, which I dont care for but there is also gonna be skylake... And skylake will have a different socket + the DDR4 market will become the standard...
So IF I still get a PC im gonna go with an I5 and Z97 ASROCK EXTREME 6 mobo...
But ima make a new topic with a new config in mind cause I have no idea for the PSU and memory tbh... Well I do have some thoughts but mulling em over here has gotten me good info so far :)
