I use mine at home for 2-6 hours a day and at work for about 8 hours. Don't care either way. Mouse skates are designed to reduce friction so it slides easier. The user just gets used to whatever they're using.
Personally, the mousepad doesn't matter at all. The only reason I use one is so the desk doesn't wear out.
If you want to use a mouse for gaming, you better get a mouse pad for more stable moves and better registering by mouse, than the desktops surface.
