Higher end of your budget
But it comes with a good GPU/ CPU/ IPS Monitor

600$ is hard to come by with a monitor/keyboard/mouse and OS in canada

You could save $25 and get a cheap KB/Mouse combo and give him 8gb of RAM :D

Fix it again because your board doesn't support 1866 =P

Although, I guess you don't really need to since it will still run at 1600 and it would only save $2 by going down to A-Data DDR3-1600

I think it is going to be nearly impossible to get what you want for only $600.

Even IF you succeed you will be looking at mediocre parts at best.

IMO you really need to find a cheaper alternative to that win8 for $100. Have you thought about buying some of the parts used? Personally I would opt for a used monitor in combination with a cheaper alternative for the OS.
The monitor can easily be upgraded later down the road and you get the benefit of having better performance in games. Performance > image quality if you are on such a tight.

if your looking for monitor and mouse/kb combo's ur going to break your budget.
If youre looking at a built PC (( tower only )) your well within your range and its possible.

You can pirate win8, and if you go to your local computer store you can probably convince them to lend you a copy of win7 if you say your doing a system restore or some build..
Computer store tech guys are usually pretty friendly and have many back up discs for OS's in their back store, i borrow operating system disks from the guy at
our local radio shack all the time when im building pc's for friends.

The second one isn't that bad. Yes, we all hate prebuilts, but when it comes with windows, it's already together, and it has a decent processor, it's not that bad for $500.

Yet, shelling out a few hundred more can get you a pretty decent component build that will perform much better.

When I was young and stupid, I bought a prebuilt. It's crap compared to what I have built now, but it still played d3,bf3,wow,swtor,borderlands 1/2, skyrim, ff14, all on medium settings without issues. Mind you that computer was purchased in 2009.

With that all said, with an 800 top end budget, he can build himself a much better computer. And since computers for casual people should last many years, shelling out a couple hundred more would be more beneficial since it's a one time purchase.

All of the CPU's on those prebuilts are never bad prebuilts usually skimp on three things, GPU + Power supply + MOBO

Just looking at a 750TI vs the 610: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-vs-GeForce-GT-610

It's quite a sad comparison
