As an aside to Ice, I really think he should stick with the 300 + Earthwatts PSU combo in conjuction with the rest of the parts you picked. A good PSU is always a good thing to spend a little extra on and the 300 is a very nice low-end case.

No, there isn't a performance difference. The problem here is that DDR2 support is gone. No future chipsets will be using DDR2. Also, socket 775 is done. Intel is no longer making new 775 chips in favor of 1156/1366. Your build offers up zero upgrade potential all while banking his entire value on huge overclocks, which realistically he may not be able to obtain (dud hardware) or be able to do (not enough knowledge. it takes a bit to push a big overclock like that).

Basically your build is shit.

wow what a amd fanboy. 775 isnt dead. yeah they dont make new shit for it anymore, but the stuff that is now out for it is fast and better then everything amd has to offer in the same price range. there is really no point on upgrading anyhting in a pc down the road. u build a pc, u keep it for a few years then u build a new one. the e6300 at stock is > then the amd 245

need proof? here is a bench mark:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=94&p2=96&c=1

the e6300 KILLS the amd at stock, the intel is cheaper, and any idiot can overclock a e6300 to 3.5 ghz at least( and mind u core2duo > overclocker then any amd chip) to kill the amd even more. so this forum needs to stop fan boyign amd, the 775 socket it fine you dont know shit

I don't own any AMD products, retard. What an AMD fanboy I am. You'll notice if you read other threads most of us are Intel users. Buying 775 now is a waste of money with very little upgrade potential down the road. Buy 1156 and higher or nothing if you want Intel.

if anyone buys a computer to upgrade it down the road is a idiotic move in the first place (unless it is a video card maybe). this thread is about the kids computer here and now. the e6300 and 775 mobo is greater performace then that amd garbage u and ice posted.

I'm confused...

E6300 = $79.99
A II x2 250 = $64.99

How is the E6300 cheaper?

Also in your little chart, you'll notice that in all the gaming scenarios that the AMD beats Intel.

Not to mention I put the x2 240 in my build which is even cheaper.

You also forget that the Athlon II chips can overclock very nicely to ~3.6GHz.

I'm missing something...

Oh yeah, LGA 775 is no longer supported. Odd.

and u will also notice that chart doesnt have the 245 so it was the 250 which is better. so take some of those fps off too. wow 775 is no longer support? no shit. doesnt mean it is not a great value. when that kid easily gets the cpu clocked to 4+ghz (the motherboard can easily take 1600fsb) he will be flying past that amd. core 2 duo runs cooler then athlon x2 as well. read up more son.

Who the fuck cares that AMD is faster at running a single application(it's very slight, even).

Who the fuck runs just one application at a time??

I know I don't.

Well.. normally don't do builds anymore but since you pm'd : |

For 500-600 budget. It's hard to beat this rig. $576.12 after rebates, including shipping.

You suggest he buys a dead/dying socket limiting future upgrades; and potentially giving him a massive bill when he decides to move up?

The 245/250 clock extremely well.

I lol'd, Eeks build includes a better PSU and a GPU and a quad core
