The 3060 12gb is better than a 4050 in a laptop. That 4050 probably has 6gb of vram. Also the 512gb storage on that laptop isn't ideal. :bonk:

It's within the budget and child friendly. A laptop and desktop aren't really comparable in terms of power. This is more than enough to run fortnite and roblox or rust while also being portable. Storage can be upgraded easily.

It doesn't sit right with me to let you make bad suggestions so I wanted to make sure they knew that the 4050 isnt a good gpu especially in a laptop. 6gb of vram is easy to max out in a game like rust. Laptops are mobile friendly but that doesn't make them kid friendly. In my opinion a desktop is much more kid friendly because the only things they really can interact with and move are the mouse and keyboard. A laptop can fall off of tables, be crushed, and are much more difficult to replace or upgrade parts in them. Have a good one.

It's good enough for Rob blocks and doesn't require any technical knowledge to set up. It's basically a portable pre-built solution that Is plug and play. Obviously it's not a top tier cpu it's a low end laptop gpu that would probably do what his kid needs.

Laptop more kid friendly because you can take it with you wherever. Can double as a school tool too. Turning down resolutions would greatly reduce ram demand. It's definitely something to consider vs a 650$ desktop

That PC will rn Fortnite, Rust, and Roblox, but the hardware in these prebuilt budget systems is usually pretty weak or outdated. Rust especially is more demanding, so he might struggle with low FPS on higher settings.

If you are open to alternatives, sometimes a good laptop can be a safer and more reliable option for kids.
Something like the https://theinsightsolutions.com/product/7h1jm/ is great for school and light gaming, though for heavier games a proper gaming PC with a modern GPU (GTX 1660/RTX 3050 or better) would be a smoother experience.

If you want, I can recommend better prebuilt options around your budget.

650 and below...he dont need much to satisfy him.

Let's look at the specification for each game.

Rust Recommended Requirements (full HD monitor)
GPU - Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 570 or better,
CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (game is more focused on CPU)
RAN: 16GB of RAM.
HDD - 40 GB SSD

Rust 4k quality
Processor (CPU) Intel Core i7-13700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or better Rust heavily benefits from CPU cache (making X3D chips excellent) and single-thread performance.
Memory (RAM) 32 GB DDR4 @ 3600 MHz or DDR5 @ 6000 MHz+ The game can use upwards of 28 GB of RAM in high-pop servers. Ensure XMP/EXPO profiles are enabled in BIOS for optimal speed.
Graphics (GPU) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or better For 4K resolution, an RTX 4070 or higher is recommended for 60 FPS.
Storage SSD (NVMe highly recommended) An SSD is essential for fast loading times and to prevent stuttering as assets stream in.

Fortnite Recommended Requirements (full HD monitor)
CPU - Core i5-7300U 3.5 GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U (or equivalent)
GPU - Nvidia GTX 960 or AMD R9 280 (or equivalent)
Memory - 16 GB or higher
Storage - SSD with 50GB available space (to be on safe side)

Fortnite at Epic Quality?
Epic Quality System Requirements (for High-End 1440p/4K Gaming)
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or equivalent
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or equivalent
RAM: 16 GB
Storage: SSD with 130GB+ available space (or 26GB+ for some sources)
OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit

In reality it would depend on what monitor you are using:

Recommended for 1080p
Nvidia: GeForce RTX 3060 (12GB version recommended) / RTX 4060
AMD: Radeon RX 6600 XT / RX 7600
These offer a much better experience with higher settings and more stable frame rates across all three games, with enough VRAM for modern gaming.

CPU and RAM are crucial for Rust: While the GPU is important, Rust is heavily reliant on the CPU and benefits significantly from 16GB of RAM (or 32GB in some cases). A balanced system with a modern CPU (like an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5) is essential to avoid bottlenecks.
VRAM: Aim for a GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM. The 12GB version of the RTX 3060 is often preferred over the 8GB RTX 4060 for its better longevity in texture-heavy games.
Monitor Refresh Rate: If you plan to use a high refresh rate monitor (e.g., 144Hz or 240Hz), you will need a more powerful GPU, such as an RTX 4070 Super or RX 9070 XT, to consistently push high frame rates in games like Fortnite.

I hope this helps. :)
