Currently I have no said budget but it's not a crazy build, but it's goal is an upgrade to be able to play in 4k at reasonable frames (45-60).

Planned is;

Processor: i7 8700k
Video card: 1080 ti (had thoughts of dropping the extra for another one to run 2x, but i feel it would cause more issues then anything).
Motherboard: ? Was looking at the ASUS Maxiumus IX Hero, not really sure how to decide though.
Power supply: ?
Heat sink: Already have 212, going to buy coolab pro paste for it.
Memory: Already have 2x 8g corsair's
Hard Drive: Already have samsung pro 250g and a couple hdd's
Case: ?
Monitor: ?
keyboard: Already have Corsair k95
Mouse: Already have Logitech G900 wireless
So yea just need help choosing a good case/motherboard and power supply to go with this setup.

Also suggestions on changes are welcome.

Looking at the LG 27UD58-B 27" 4K Monitor, any thoughts? Seems good for it's price.

Also I did a power check and it looks like recommended power for the setup would be 650 tops, but 850 would be safe if i planned on adding another card, so how's the Corsair RMX 850?

Still looking at cases, not sure yet.

Remember, you will need DDR4 RAM for this build.

Do your research, the 212 is still holds some of the best cooling temps for a non-water single fan setup.
I considered buying a new one but it seems there is no need, but if you have recommendations on something better feel free to post it.
Noctua NH-D15 SSO2 D-Type looks like it has been reviewed positively, let me know what you think.

thanks

Looks like I will need 2 new sticks then. I assume corsair's ram is still good? And is there any reason to go with 2 16's over 8's or is 16 total still enough these days?

Don't think the 212 would handle 8700k with mce or all cores 4.7 plus with keeping temps down possibly below 70s

It's iffy but It should handle it fine, especially if OP doesn't OC to its potential. Though, like mason said if he dropping the dough, why not just update it too? Other than extremely frugal reasons to save
