Budget:
Around $1,000. Will salvage whatever needed from my current build (down at the bottom), or sell the rig and add those funds on top of it.

More specific use (what games, what programs):
Photography so editing programs such as Photoshop CC and Adobe Lightroom CC.
Also console style gaming with an Xbox controller playing random steam games. Anything from racing to RPG games like Dark Souls.

Planned time until purchase:
Not a huge rush, but ideally in the next 6-8 weeks. Giving my time to sell the parts from my current build or the whole build all together.

Do you need an Operating System?:
No, I will be reformatting my current PC and using my current Windows 10 license.

Do you have any specific preferred components?:
Will be building within the Node 202 case. As far as everything else I am looking for advice on.
I want to keep it with the lowest TDP and power draw as possible to keep it cool and very quiet.

Do you need a sound or wireless card?:
Very dependant on the hardware selected. If the Mobo doesn't have onboard wifi/sound then yes.

Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?:
Don't think many stock coolers will fit the Node 202. I won't be overclocking as long as it isn't neccesary to keep the power draw to a minimum and minimize heat.

Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?:
No, I currently have dual monitors & a 15.6" portable HD monitor.

Zip code/location? (Shipping costs):
Will be buying local at Microcenter or Amazon.

Additional Info:
My top priorities are keeping it cool and quiet. Being portable so I can take it places and only need to bring a HDMI and power cable to be up an running.

Current build for comparison of what I am using is the following.
  • CPU: I7-5820k
  • GPU: GTX 980 Ti
  • Ram: 16GB
  • Case: Fractal Design Define S
  • Storage 1: 240gb SSD (Used for OS & drivers)
  • Storage 2: 500GB SSD (Used for games, large programs, and current photos I am editing)
  • Storage 3: 2TB HDD (Used for archived photos once I have edited)

you will be losing a lot of performance is it really worth it? are you going to to be traveling into the wilderness with nothing but a power bank?

Here is what I'm thinking of going with. Is it really that big of a loss in performance?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/28YvGf

For the programs I use, it seems a way higher clock speed of the 7700k will benefit alot more than the more cores on my 5820k.
Gpus are closely similar as far as benchmarks and such but the 1070 running alot cooler and way less power consumption. I never max out my gpu so I feel the 1070 will suffice fine but feel free to correct me.

As for traveling I travel alot. I'm out of town every weekend to visit my family that isn't doing well. During the week I'm only home on Mondays and Wednesdays from about 6-10pm. During the week I'm either at my girls house with no net (why I want to use it for console style gaming) or going on location for photoshoots. When I'm shooting 24mp and 36mp images, my laptop takes quite a while to load previews and switch from image to image so I kind of want a portable powerhouse computer.

EDIT: also might I add, I didn't pay a dime for my system. I got my build, my razer orb weaver, Naga, kraken, and blackwidow, 2x 27" monitors and a speaker system for free due to a microcenter mess up. I even went back in to verify when I noticed my card hadn't been charged 4 weeks later and they said they had a system failure and no credit cards got charged for like a 30minute window and the company took it as a loss.

So I'm not super concerned about having to pay a little for similar performance. With my current build I have picked, if I can get a grand for my system now, that's only like 500$ out of pocket. Won't complain lol.

I wouldn't put a 7700k in a node unless you want constant ramping up/down on your fans. Does it in my atx case as well with more ventilation

6 core Zen might help you more given your use case as well

My biggest reasoning for not going ryzen is there is only 1 manufactured itx mobo. Reading reviews and talking with people it seems the Biostar mobo is complete junk. Sits at the uaef bios screen or whatever for 2-3 seconds before it even initiates the boot sequence.
But I'll look into Zen a bit more. Thanks for the input.

We're supposed to be getting new ITX mobos from ASRock and Gigabyte this month.

Ohhh I'll definitely keep my eyes out. Going to give it 2 months and if I don't come across a nfc s4 mini for sale, I'll go with the node build and look into ryzen again.
Anyone running a sff build and have input on heat and noise? I'm running I believe 6x cougar 140mm fans in my current fractal define S running all fans at 100% and it's perfectly bearable.

I'm focused on the consistentcy of noise. It's all over the place which is irritating with the7700k

I would go with a ryzen 1600 and wait for the itx mobos
