Budget: 400-500
More specific use (what games, what programs): He mostly plays roblox, minecraft, and other simple games like war thunder, it just needs to be more powerful than his current laptop which is an Asus X550L.
Planned time until purchase: Asap
Do you need an Operating System?: No
Do you have any specific preferred components?: No
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Wireless card or usb adapter
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Stock
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: All of the above
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 16117

This will be a christmas gift so I'd like to get the parts as soon as possible, I would prefer to order in the next few days to try and take advantage of post cyber Monday deals.
It doesn't have to look super fancy, it just has to run better than his laptop.

Thank you in advance!

Would it help much to bump it to 600?

New budget $600, also would prefer for it to all be on amazon if possible, I'm going to be buying amazon gift cards from giant eagle to get fuelperks.

Thank you guys for the build suggestions so far.

How beneficial is an SSD over a standard hard drive or a hybrid drive? Is the price vs. performance vs. capacity worth it?

Anyone have any other build suggestions for the 600 budget, or a 500 budget without mouse, keyboard, monitor?

Sorry for my previous posts, I haven't had the time to sit down at a computer and do any of my own looking, I haven't been staying at home where my computer is and haven't had a chance until now to use one, I've been on my phone which makes builds damn near impossible. I didn't mean to come off as needing to be spoonfed a whole build.

This is what I was able to come up with, I don't know how good or bad it is, I did as much research as I know to do, and used pcpartpicker to check for compatibility issues.

Am I missing any better options or anything to save a few bucks?

Thank you guys.

Could swap the wifi card to the one you linked in your build to save $15.
Not something I'd go too cheap with though - the whole experience relies on connectivity ;)

build's are pretty much the same, i prefer quad core over dual core.
who cares if older gen ;)

also userbenchmark is on my side ;)

Also mine has a 470 instead of a 460. Link above shows performance difference. The 460 is advertised as an "esports" card and should probably be avoided if you want your nephew to enjoy gaming on his computer.

I would definitely get a 1080p monitor instead of the one you linked as well. You can Craigslist one for $60 or so, at least in my area.
