My budget is 1000 or less. I have the power supply, operating system, screen, and hhd. I have 16g 1333 ram. Will upgrade if necessary. Would also like a 256 ssd. Thanks for the help!

will this work? and because i dont know, why switch boards or downgrade the CPU?

You have an unlocked chip on a chipset that would never allow you to overclock the K model.

6700 on non z170s
6700k on z170s

Also it would be wise to spend some money on a decent power supply and a little bit better of a mobo but it's up to you.

Also you need a CPU cooler with the 6700k.

tweaked some things (ram, PSU, MB) Added about 120 bucks, but does this look better? Also, I'm leaning toward not overclocking. So is it still worth the extra 30 bucks to get the K in case I would like to later on?

I also have a 212 evo from my old build that has minimal hours so I can use that for my cooler until i come up with more cash

That would be my recommendation

Ram you can do whatever with... it's literally no difference besides looks/cost
SSD i'd go for a cheaper brand but again your preference.
