I don't see anything wrong with it.
Though Me personally, I'd drop my cpu down to a i5 4460 with a cheap mobo to upgrade my graphics to a 390.
Would just give you significantly more performance for same price, but no other complaints. ^_^

edit: I did what I mean here:

I also prefer 4 ram sticks to 2, because it looks better, but again, a taste thing.

i was wondering about that with the ram... wasnt sure if it made a difference or not.
would the video card change make any noticeable difference for someone whos not playing a top end game?

for the gpu depends on if you plan on playing that same game for 3+ years or if you plan to switch it will give you additional performance that you may need. I would do like he mentioned and get the i5 and the 390 (well I would go nvidia, but thats me :P)

for the ram again as he stated it is preference. I tend to go the other direction and if 2 sticks are the same price as 4 for the same capacity I will get 2 sticks. it gives you the option to add additional ram later on...granted you have 16gb already so really not a concern

I would stick with op's build.

can always get a new gfx card later on, where getting a new mobo + cpu would be less cost effective long term

It's true but the difference between that i5 and the other i5 are pretty small. he will upgrading his equipment at the same rate, regardless of the choice.

The ram doesn't affect performance in any capacity. As long as you have 8 you're good. but you can have 16 if you want.
There is a pretty big difference between the 380 and the 390.

You're not going to notice a difference between the two if you are playing a low end game, no, but over time and if you ever play other games obviously the difference will show itself.

The same could be said of your whole build though, you could play low end games (better graphics than current gen consoles) on a 500 dollar PC, so In my eyes, just get the besst you can at that price. ^_^

yup, and I did that with my pc :)

3570k + 970 currently

prior to a 970 i was using a craigslist 560ti
extremely worth it :)

@Rapture, if i got a 3570 or some other variant non-k in that line I would have upgraded to skylake, i have that option to wait (which is what makes unlocked CPUs worth it)

i totally agree on saving money on the cpu as it is not that important for gaming, but there is no need to fall back to haswell as it limits your possibility for umgreating and does not save any money compared to a simular skylake prozessor.
Simply go back to a non-k i5 and you have the money, as you save 40$ on cooling, 40$ on the cpu and 30$ on the mainboard. Now you can easily afford a r9 390.

Promo Discounts: -$14.00
Mail-in Rebates: -$40.00

And dont worry about the prozessor. As long as you have a 60hz monitor you wont need any more cpu power.
