I'm looking for a desktop that I can build roughly 40-50 units.

Budget: 300-400max

More specific use (what games, what programs): Office work (.net ERP software, Microsoft Office programs, basic browser use)

Planned time until purchase: Just looking for a build, can probably get from a reseller cheaper, so deals don't need to be found, and time isnt important atm)

Do you need an Operating System?: No going to purchase Open Volume Licencing

Do you have any specific preferred components?: Nope

Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Nope

Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Stock

Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: No

Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 32955

HDD - storage isn't that important due to nothing but the profile and applications are actually stored on the computer, all data is stored in a user share on a nas.
RAM - can't see a use for more than 4GB's
Proc - mid to low (in that order)
case - doesn't need anything but some USB's on the front.
PSU's - greener the better.
mobo - cheaper the better, don't need any extra features (I.E usb 3.0)
GxC - none needed, just decent onboard graphics (DVI or VGA is fine)

This should end up costing $225-250 or less per unit if you manage to order supplies wholesale

Mini ITX form factor (Tiny)
Includes a 2ghz quad core, so good multi tasking, but only sips 25w, so super green on the power
I added 8gb of RAM, its $35 VS $20 for 4gb, the difference will be even less buying bulk, worth it just to go 8 in your budget IMO
Samsung 850 120gb SSD, enough for programs and windows, quieter, less power required (green), and will increase productivity by decreasing boot and program launch times
Cooler master ITX tower case, small form factor, not much bigger than the power supply X2
Motherboard has onboard graphics with DVI, VGA, HDMI outputs, so everything you need, it is important to note that this Mini ITX motherboard has a USB 3.0 header as that is what most ITX cases have on the front
Corsair 450w Power supply is about 300w more than this rig will ever need, but its the best price for a 80+ Gold efficiency PSU, and that equals out to green, once again

You could easily cut price down in this, 250gb HDD will be about $17 less, go for a lower wattage, lower efficiency PSU and you can cut that in half, dual core instead of quad, 4gb of RAM, etc and you would be around $225, AR

Total cost: $330 retail, $296 after rebates,
estimated <$200 Wholesale

Awesome work my friend! I think I'll lose the cdrom drive and im debating about the psu.

Trying to give this as a proposal to my company, they got hooked on the whole thinclient craze and its biting them in the ass now as the company grows... (they bough inferior server equipment and it cant host all of our needs, so its either drop 100+ grand on new servers or swap out thinclients with pcs to reduce the impact on the servers)

don8ing for great work/advice!

I would present the option with 2 PSUs, because you can certainly do it for cheaper but you will have to move down to an 80+ or 80+ bronze instead of the gold rating, if they tend to use a PC for 4-5 years the cost in energy savings should make up for it, but you can totally power this entire build off a laptop power supply lol

I saw that on the mobo specs hah, found that nifty to say the least.

I'll look for a 2nd PSU to add to the proposal.

Thanks again!

if windows updates or virus scans run on these computers people are gonna bitch if you only have 4gb of ram... just saying I know from first hand experience working with a company who had low spec computers even though they didn't really do much but email and word processing.

do yourself a favor and get at least an i3 with 8gb and a ssd. you never know what they might need in a year or 2 all of a sudden there might be a new software that is needed all of a sudden and then you are stuck with your $400 budget computers that can't cut it either.

also before you buy from a reseller check on warranty.. I know at my lost job we had all Dells and we could get someone on site within a day to fix issues unless parts were needed. we never had to send a computer in and wait 2+ weeks for it to return.

Trust me my friend they are currently using a thinclient and a RDS server that is so under powered anything I give them will be better lol.
Also I run scans in the evening so it doesnt impact them during work hours.

Also I'm trying to eliminate us from having to rely on outside vendors, if a desktop dies on us we have to contact our vendor/troubleshoot than wait two days as they ship us a new computer...
vs. if something dies and we control everything inhouse I can pop a new HDD or mobo in and get them back up n running in an hour tops.. than deal with shipping back parts or ordering new ones.
