My cousin asked me to build him a PC for about 900$ CAD. With Skylake being released I figured I might look into upgrading my system and selling him my old one.

My current system specs are:

CPU - i7 2600k
MOBO - Asus P8 P67 Pro
RAM - G.Skill Sniper 16GB
GFX - Gigabyte Windforce 290x
PSU - Corsair HX 850
HEATSINK - Corsair H50
CASE - NZXT Phantom

I have a 6950 2GB that I would give to my cousin so I could keep my 290x and I would also keep my case/PSU. I wouldn't mind spending an extra 200-400$ if it is worth it, but only if it is worth it. I play ARMA 3, BF4, CS:GO, CIV 5 and GTA V. I may plan on getting another 290x to utilise crossfire. I currently game at 1080p but I am always looking for a 1440p monitor deal to enhance my gaming experience further.

The big question is do I upgrade to a 6700k/6600k or should I go for a 4790k?

If I got the 6600k I could save a bit of money so I could get a better water cooler and then overclock it to increase the performance a bit more.

Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

Go for Skylake (6600k if you don't need HT, 6700k if you do. Hint, if you don't know if you need it then you probably don't) and donate your old cpu/mobo.

What's your monitor budget?

I will be giving my cousin most of my old parts, I have no use at the moment for hyper threading so I am leaning more towards the 6600k.

I am willing to spend around 400$ on a monitor.

Would go for a [single input] QX2710 and OC the panel for 96+hz

Note: that's the glossy version, so if your room is extremely bright or you got sunlight coming in you'll want to spring the extra $50 for the matte.

I live in Canada and the Newegg site has the monitor but at a little bit of a steeper price ~650$

That is far too expensive for a single monitor for me at this point in time.
