Well I'm about to get a computer for gaming, budget: 1000€ (~1100 US $)

My general question is simply if intel or amd is the better choice for a gaming setup. I used to play with intel cpus only, but I'm pretty much open to new things but still want to get the best out of my budget.

So anyone have further information about this question? Would be great to get some help :D

edit: actually I spend about 150€ on a monitor, so probably 850€ left for the computer itself, hope this helps :D

it depends on the game, and many other factors
but having a stronger GPU with AMD CPU > weaker GPU with INTEL CPU in a low budget build

Budget: 900 US$ (850€)
More specific use (what games, what programs): in general gaming, currently ffxiv and ark
Planned time until purchase: prolly 1-2month
Do you need an Operating System?: nope
Do you have any specific preferred components?: not really, just a few things which shouldnt be worse in place, like: 16gig ram 2400mhz, at least an cpu with 8k+ bench, compareable gpu with gtx960 4g, no ssd needed (already in stock)
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: nope
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: thinking about it, still unsure
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: check the edit, and just need a keyboard, prolly will spend about 80€ on it, have a few in mind
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): hamburg, germany

depends on games you play

intel will offer you way better performance on single threaded apps

otherwise either

dx12 might soon change that but then again its up to the developers

nobodys going to propose a build for that long down the road. Prices change very frequently and intels new processors drop in august, which may or may not affect pricing of a few things. [such as Ram, mobos and maybe processors]

edit: but agreed, intel is better processor without question, but it is very expensive and not worth affording one when compared to spending on more graphics.

16 gig of ram at 2400 mhz (2xx euros)
(wasted money and wasted time , especially to play ff)

very expensive? lol

dx12 might change things but,

intel performance in all games > than amds hit and miss performance with slilghtly better graphics

there is alot of game benches that prove this, will link them if needed

so lets recommend him something that has shorter shelf life just for small bump in graphic performance

also consider his budget on monitor most likely 1080p/60

I know intel is better and has a "longer shelf life" but for someone with a budget that longer shelf life is pretty insignificant.
The difference of adding intel is smaller when compared to buying something like an R9 290 over a 280, or buying a 970 over a 960.
Processors from 8 years ago can still game pretty adequately now for a lot of folks @ 1080p. If you are suggesting that spending the extra money for someone to be able to game on their 4690k in 2025 vs needing to upgrade in 2023 i think thats pretty silly.

On top of that, you are right. Dx12 may change the CPU landscape. I think AMD knows this [or is praying] with their new upcoming 16 core processor
