Will be going to college this fall and would like a new decent computer. Will be doing some mild gaming like csgo, skyrim etc. But will also be using for school work.
What kind of price range would it cost to build a decent (but nothing crazy) computer for these purposes?
Been watching some tutorials on building, but any pointers for compete novice?
What parts etc would you recommend?
Thank you!

Going to address some points:

Sound card:
You won't need a sound card, as basic sound is integrated into mobos.

Wireless/Wifi:
Will you need a wifi card? This is only if you are notplanning on using a wired connection.

Operating System:
Windows is not included when you build from scratch. Do you have a key? Buying windows is about 75-90 dollars. If you know of another way to get yourself windows or a free operating system like Linux, then let me know if I should be calculating that cost in your budget.

Mail In Rebates:
How do you feel about mail in rebates? They allow you to mail in UPC + Receipt + Rebate form to get money back. They can be an utter pain but for some, they're very worth it. [They are often for 15-30 dollars back].
Please let me know so I can include items with mail in rebates in your build.

Edit:
Here is an example of something I put together without looking into parts with Rebates and including the cost of windows
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/thqcrH

I'll change it up once you clarify, as a wifi card is gonna be about 20 dollars.
