i got like $1200 set aside for parts/headphones/monitor/keyboard

that already took me 6 months to set aside :\

any monkey here can coach you through overclocking the g3258
decent z97 motherboard so you can upgrade the cpu at a later date, but an oc'd g3258 will hold you off for a good while if all you're doing is gaming.

this would net you 1080p 144fps in most games -- obviously not aaa games, drop your settings if you expect that, otherwise anything you get over 60fps is a bonus with high settings
high ipc/single core performance of the pentium is enough for the 970.
