I've had my current computer for 4 years so I'm a bit behind on the progression of compoopers. How does this look?

And is it worth replacing the 280x for a 290x? Would you say anything will bottleneck?

Going to use this computer mostly for gaming, is it super mega overkill?

well you have overkill parts that you're most likely not gonna benefit from with a shitty power supply
is all i can tell you with the info you provided lol

Sorry, made the thread in a rush. How does the PSU affect performance, other than the ability to overclock? Do you not think it will cope with the GPU on full blast and the CPU on turbo?

For gaming, streaming, movies, watching streams + playing games, etc, will I be better off downgrading a bunch of shit? What would you say is a better choice for GPU/CPU/RAM?

What's so wrong about the RAM, never heard anyone say you need really fast ram? It's 16gb, by the way.

Mobo is up for discussion, I just picked a random one for a cheap price.

Debating whether I should get a 280x or 290x, is the 290x worth it?

Am I better off buying something like this?

+ Mobo, ofc.

I would say 4690k + R9 290.

I would also say this.
Also unless you specifically need 16gb of ram, you won't benefit from anymore than 8.

Would also change your PSU to a more reputable brand. Think corsair, seasonic or evga to name a few. Check out this tier list. Regardless of any flaws it has or doesn't, its a great resource to make a reasonably quick, uneducated decision about your PSU purchase.

16gb isn't that necessary unless you wanna play 3 games on the same team meanwhile watching some stream or youtube video lel

I'd still go for the i7 if you have the budget, will last you longer than an i5. There's performance differences on a high level!

How will an i7 last longer than an i5?

You can overclock the i5 to match i7 speeds so the frequency difference is negated.
Games won't benefit from Hyperthreading. OBS (or other streaming software) will get slight benefit, but nothing really worth noting. If you're sponsored, sure, it may be worth the extra $100, but still.
The only other thing an i7 has over an i5 is a 2MB larger L3 cache which, again, is negligible.

Because overclocking your cpu will make it's lifespan shorter.
i7 will always be better than an i5 in any case if money isn't the problem. I guess it's not in this case.

ALSO, if you would like to OC your i5 to be anywhere close to the performance of an i7, you're gonna have to buy an aftermarket cooler which will make the money difference smaller, making the i7 more viable.

I'd say i7 if you can. I woulda gone with i7.
What if he wants to start editing records of his gameplay? i7 would be faaaar more superior than an i5.

(Not saying that an i5 is bad, just saying an i7 is far better)
