Budget: 1400 - 1600

More specific use: Mostly games. But will want to hook up to a 50+ Inch TV for movies ect.

Planned time until purchase: No huge rush 2-4 weeks. Will most likely have to buy hardware a few pieces at a time if I order them from the US, That way I don't get taxed coming back across the border.

Do you need an Operating System?: Maybe? any real reason not to torrent one?

Do you have any specific preferred components?: I am not sure! Intel / Nvidia for CPU / GPU at the least I think.

Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Wireless no. Sound card I don't really know? I thought they were more or less built into the Mobo's now? I would still like to have the 2.5mm or are they 3.5mm? colored jack in's.

Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Stock I think for now. I have no XP doing tweaking CPU's GPU's but might want to later.

Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: No - No - No

Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): Canadian with a US mailing address ( I live 15 minutes from the border) Will buy from whichever has the better deal I guess.

Other - Needs to be quiet or at least have consistent fan speeds! No revving up and down every 30 seconds. Perhaps liquid cooled? Also would like ideas to manage the air intake if going with fans to reduce dust intake. Usually the bearings wear out before the components do, so hardware where you can change these out or have easy access to oil them is a plus. Good compatibility between hardware is a must and easy updates for drivers is always good. And nothing needs to be flashy! No need for a crazy looking case with LED's i'll take whatever works the best over looks. I do want the cable management inside to be neat though. The HD needs to be reliable! Not a fan of data loss.

Current rig is about 6 years old! So I am kinda out of the loop on the current computer hardware stuff or anything I should wait for to come out. Would like some insight on SSD and crossfire / SLI? I don't really know much about them. I heard having the OS on a SSD was super fast and nice. And I like the idea of buying one higher end GPU now then being able to add a second in 2-3 years when it needs a boost. Well I think that's about it so far, thanks for any help / replies.

US will be cheaper
If pcpartpicker decides to work I can do a build.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rtXCMp
swap rad fans with pure wings
and intake/exhaust for silent wings

If you want silence, go noctua/be quiet.
I like noctuas more, but people don't like the color scheme so I went Be Quiet.
Either way silence cost more.
I have 9 noctuas in my case and it is inaudible with exception to my HDD.
You will also need to sent fan profiles to run lower at idle and speed up if the temps are needed.
Custom profile will usually run quieter than stock.

With dream's build, I would go with a Z97 board, not a Z87. The Z97 will support Broadwell cpus whenever they are released. Also, you honestly don't need that many fans in your case unless you live in a very warm area or are going to heavily overclock. Those would be something you can pick up after time, if you wish.

Thank you both for the replies! Now regarding the two "top of budget builds"

MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB Video Card
MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB Twin Frozr Video Card

What is the difference? Am I only seeing slight difference in dimensions and core clock speed?

And you use two different CPU's in the higher end builds why?

Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz 8-Core OEM/Tray Processor

How will broadwell cpus be better then these any why?

You also list two different MOBO's even though the price difference is more or less marginal. Can you expand on that? I have played around with building my own rig a few times and the MOBO is generally what I get stuck on.

Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

The ASUS Maximus VI seriers of boards are good boards, but they're an older chipset. The Maximum VII are the newer series of boards and they're usually for extreme overclocking. If you've never done it before, they'll still work (of course), but you won't need them for mild overclocking. Any Z chipset motherboard can overclock an unlocked Intel CPU, provided they're compatible sockets.

Broadwell CPUs stats are currently unknown and will be released Q1 or Q2 of 2015. They're the newest generation of Intel CPUs. They'll be lower wattage and a smaller die size so will generate less heat.

As for the two different CPUs at top end, its just for choice. One is an AMD and one is an Intel. I was just giving you options.

Forgot about the graphics card question. One is a reference design card while the other is not. Basically, the one Dream posted is the Nvidia reference design (the card all the manufacturers base the card on) while the one I posted is modified with a different heat dissipation system to perform better (usually). The one I posted is also factory overclocked.

May as well go all out, right? =P
But yes, the 8350 will likely perform better in a real world scenario. That 220w TDP on the 9590 is... insane.

won't net you any noticeable performance in gaming unless streaming

will net you performance gains in other things though

i7-4790k, though
