Looking for advice on best upgrade path.

Currently I have -

i7 8700k de lidded running stable 5.1ghz
Dark Rock PRO 4 Cooler
ROG Z370H mobo
32GB 3200mhz ram
EVGA 1080ti ftw3
Corsair RM850x

I either will upgrade:

Mobo + CPU to ROG B550f + 5800x3d
or
GPU to 4070ti, most likely the TUF OC version

Can’t afford both, want one or the other, so I cant decide which might give me the most gain as an upgrade, as obviously this motherboard doesnt support the full PCIE type for a 4070ti or other modern GPU, so not sure if that is the right way to go first?

Mostly play MMOs and RTS games at 1440p and want to achieve a stable 165fps in WOW when raiding with max settings (dont care about RT in wow though)

id go with the gpu first
if you're using a HDD for storage i'd upgrade to an ssd as well

but honestly id wait till you can buy everything because there are still crazy mark ups and who knows when they will come down

I’m on a 970 EVO NVME atm for boot and big sata SSDs for libraries.

I’ve just heard so many conflicting opinions about both paths that I’m so torn haha

well, nvidia has record lowest sales this quarter so far, and amd is under shipping chips to promote higher prices... eventually these things are bound to reflect in consumer pricing IMO, but that's still speculation.

You’re going to get more performance in WoW with a better GPU.

Eventually upgrade to a 7800x3d or 7900x3d build when the budget allows.

Yeah this what I’m going to do I think. Hopefully the benchmarks for the 7800x3d are amazing, considering how good the 5800x3d is

Definitely go with the GPU, i7 8700K is no slouch still in 2023 and your best gains will come from the GPU

I actually just bought a TUF 3080 10gb as I got it brand new for a lot less than the 4070ti, so let’s see what happens!
