I use a Logitech f310 and I think I paid $20 at a physical Best Buy store.
It looks almost identical to an older PlayStation controller.
Tip: The logo button pulls up a social screen that you have never seen with out a controller. It was a totally bizarre experience the first time I did it.
Set loot to A, so that you do all your interactions with A.
I just leave automap as select(BACK) and hold both right+left triggers to toggle showing loot.
Clicking the right analog stick swaps weapons, potions = directional pad.
I usually do like primary skills = B, secondary ability = Y, and teleport = X.
Prebuffs I do something like hold left trigger + B Y X (BO+BC+Frozen armor or whatever.)
You still need a keyboard and mouse for things like entering the game name when you make/join games.
The only issue I've found is that certain classes (like a summon necro/pnb hybrid) just have too many abilities/buttons.
So it has to be a somewhat simple character, but a fire ele druid with 4 damage abilities (Armageddon/fissure/volcano/molten bolder), 3 prebuffs (BO/BC/Cyclone Armor), and tele is 100% fine. You have enough buttons for that.
Also, don't press the mode button ever. One mode is fine and the other seems to be for other types of games.
