I'm buying a new MSI motherboard with 5600 ryzen and I heard I need to update motherboard.
So would this be the order?

1. install CPU into motherboard and into case
2. plug in USB drive with file and boot PC to update motherboard.
3. install windows.

If the BIOS "needs" updated to work with the 5600, you'll have to do it with another CPU first. Then once updated, you can drop the 5600 in.

Also some motherboard can be updated without a cpu. I think a tomahawk mobo can do it.

Yes they do. That's why I posted that link. Just Google: AMD loner CPUs ...for further details.

However... chances are you won't need the loner anyway. Unless you just happen to find a motherboard that's been sitting on the shelf for an extended period.

This is also true. And that information should be in the motherboard specs.
Different manufacturers have different names for that function and it only comes on some motherboards, and sometimes that info can be hard to find.

So I always mention AMD's loner program.
