Trying to initialize/format a brand new WD 4tb HDD and got this error:

after troubleshooting I came to the conclusion I must have gotten a bad egg and rma'd the hdd.
upon getting the replacement the problem persists.

What I've tried:
-different sata data ports(including one I know is functional)
-brand new sata data cable.
-different sata power connector
-entirely different sata power cable

I was able to get the drive to initialize on my HTPC also running windows 10 pro.

any help or further suggestions would be very much appreciated as topic title states, I'm stumped.

Hi there A2V,

Sorry to hear about your brand new drive giving you errors, you’ve done some good troubleshooting so far attempting to replicate the issue and checking for loose connections, let’s start with a few more basics and we’ll escalate from there.

Have you tried updating your device driver or even reinstall it? Try this while the drive is plugged in. You can go to on your manage device settings to do so, lmk if you need further help on this I can make a short snip it.

Have you tried changing the transfer IDE properties?

Virtual disk manager?
Have you tried running disk check, Make sure you have it set to NTFS and make sure that it has a drive letter assigned? Have you tried to reformat?
