Currently I have 4x sticks of Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) BLS4G3D1609DS1S00 in my ASUS Z87 Pro. I wanted to see if I could upgrade to 24 gb ram by going with 2x 4gb and 2x 8 gb. I bought 2x Patriot Signature 8GB DIMM DDR3 CL11 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) PSD38G16002psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details from Amazon. When the 8gb sticks are in the computer will not boot. It spins for a half a second and then dies and then tries spinning again on a continuous loop. I have tried the ram in nearly all permutations (except just 1 stick of the 8 which I will be testing after I post this) and nothing has worked. When I plugged the original 4 sticks back in they work fine.

Another thing I just noticed is my 4gb sticks are UDIMM and the new 8gb sticks are DIMM. Could this be my issue - do they need to match? Is my mother board (Asus z87 Pro) only capable of running one type?

Anyone know my problem here?

Have you tried booting with only the Patriot ram installed? is it successful? make sure they are in the primary ram slots. Consider doing a memtest at this stage to ensure your ram is not faulty

If this works, then try to add 1 4gb stick at a time into the secondary ram slots. Do more memtest to confirm all is well.

I tried with both sticks of the Patriot ram and it did the same thing. The only thing I hadn't tried was each individual stick. After posting I tried only 1 8x at a time. The first stick did the same thing but the next stick ended up booting up. So then I tried 8/4/4/4 - this also booted up. I then tried swapping the 8s and it did not load again. I think the second stick of memory I got was bad. I'm going to try to return it and get a new one and see if the new will work. It should considering one of the sticks does work.
