2 desktops wired
2 laptops wifi
4 cell phones wifi
2 tablets wifi
TV wifi

Looking to get a router
Just moved, and need something asap

Currently have a modem
Aris 8200, I think it should be good enough not to upgrade

Is it worth getting a wifi 6, or wifi 6e?
Or stick with a good wifi 5?

Any recommendations?

Thank you

1k up and down
1500sqft appartment
So lots of people in the area

Budget doesn't matter
I just want to make sure I get something that can actually provide me, what I'm paying for

At my old house I had a netgear nighthawk, and it worked very well, reading some reviews, apparently the new nighthawks are having firmware issues causing wifi to crash? Not sure how legit this is, or if it's been fixed yet

Thank you

wifi is -absolute- trash in apartments due to the amount of wireless traffic, that in mind. you should wire up as much as possible.

Make sure to put it as high as possible. Put a shelf up somewhere for it, closer to the center of the location for best coverage.

If you really want to go all out you can get a Unifi system and put up 2 ap's, one on each side. Make sure to get ones rated for the speed you have.

Download wifi analyzer and attempt to find the least used channels. (Most people will probably be on default) and avoiding dfs 5g channels can save a headache.

Amazing advice

Thank you everyone
Can yall suggest a router for me to buy?

The nighthawk ac4000 is only 170 at my local samsclub
They are like 250 at best buy, but they are only wifi 5

Should I be looking to get a wifi 6?

Tbh I didn't even know wifi6 was a thing.

With 2.4 vs 5g, 2.4 is alot better at penetrating walls but max's out at 65mb

It really depends on your usage. If your going want (want not need because let's be honest here) 1gb down on both sides of the house there's no way your going to get away with 1 router and will be better off going with 2 aps from unifi and put them on opposite sides of the house.

Nighthawk or any nice Asus router should do the job if you're looking for basic. I don't have any first hand experience with the new ones but have seen a few older nighthawks die.

If sams club has a decent return policy just buy one and try it. If it doesn't give you the coverage your want, return it and get the cheapest 4port router with the speeds you want and then get some ap's (access points)

Wifi is finicky and will react different everywhere\every device.
