Was playing ffxiv when all the sudden my PC started to shut down, even did the whole "close these apps or you will lose progress/data" or whatever, and shut down like if I clicked shut down.
Went to power it on, and it started power cycling non stop, so I figure it's probably a dead psu, but I've had a psu die on me and it absolutely did not shut the pc down, so I try the "get one last hurrah out of a dead psu" trick, and it starts, as soon as it hits desktop though it shuts down just like before.
Now I'm thinking overheated cpu, maybe thermal paste didn't spread good or something, but nope, perfect spread.
Leave the pc alone all night unplugged, plug it back in this morning and it launches just fine, and cpu temps aren't going over 45 under load, not extreme load but still the same game that crashed last night.

If it were my mobo i don't think It would have ever booted back up, so what do you guys think it could be? psu barely hanging in, or somehow cpu overheat?

max loading everything and nothing seems noticeable cpu temps sit at max 72 so im thinking it's probably not overheating.
im honestly stumped since everything seems fine as of now, but that clearly means there is an underlying issue somewhere.
It could be my ram, I only have 1 stick and not another ddr3 around, but again, a dead ram stick wouldn't just fix itself i don't think.

only reason i thought PSU, was because I had the exact same power cycle issue with a dying psu, it would power cycle without me pressing the power button, as soon as ANY power was supplied, via cord with switch on, or switch after cord was plugged in, it always cycled automatically without power button press.
Like you said though it shouldn't just shut down, and removing GPU didn't cause it to post, so kind of made me question it.
