I'm looking to make a pseudo-server primarily focused on processing power and with a ton of RAM.

It seems like the most economical way for me to do this would be to essentially make a beowolf cluster using AMD processors.

My question is how do I tell which AMD processors support simultaneous multi-threading? When I shop around with intel they advertise on the specs if hyperthreading is included but I'm not seeing that with AMD.

What AMD processor?
Only the new stuff really supports SMT with their higher thread count.
The old opterons were just high core count and the Fx processors were botched multi threading.

Doesn't matter anyway. I did some research and found out that the program I'm looking to run doesn't scale with multithreading so it doesn't really matter.

I can't afford a multi-socket motherboard so I'm looking into how to make a cluster with multiple motherboards.

How many cores/threads and ram are you looking at?
There are some imported dual xeon boards I looked at some time ago for a cheap server solution
