bought a powerline recently thinking it would increase my internet speed however it is much slower than the wireless im currently connected to

with my pc, wireless speed is 320mb, i use this powerline and i only get 15mb
using my ps4, wireless speed is 40mb, with the powerline it is only 8mb

am i doing something wrong? reading reviews people are gaining much more speed than what i can get.

also, my brother has the same powerline and he is getting the same results.

i have this one

anyone use one that can give some info?

What's your actual setup
Wireless router
And you wanted wired connection
But the devices are too far away ?

Buy a 100ft Ethernet cable and run it from your router downstairs to an upstairs bedroom
That's what gods do

Yup. Just trying to build a stronger connection

Run a wire from time to time but it goes upstairs to the main floor so not ideal

I've found that In my past places Powerline is about 85% as good as straight ethernet in terms of raw speed.

Of course how old the wiring is, How much stuff is being used on it at once, If it's in an apartment ect can affect this.

Much better overall for ping and the service stability in my experience than wifi

thats what i thought and it says on the reviews

my house in built in 95 and im running from main floor to upstairs but the speed is so much worse...i dont get it. its like 25% from wifi on ps4. computer, the speed is like 3%

does ping and speed go hand in hand or if the speed is low does not mean the ping is low?

They aren't tied at the hip but usually they get better or worse together depedning on the connection type lik wifi vs ethernet.

If you pay for 10MBS which most people consider slow your ping can still be fine if you use Ethernet and your house isn't capping out the total bandwidth.

Ping is just literally how fast a packet of data can go from your computer to a server and back.

"Speed" is how much bandwidth the connection can handle.

WiFi has a penalty for both. So the worse the signal the worse both get.

so a using this wired powerline connection with 10mb down, i could experience less lag/delay than over wifi with 40mb down?

same goes for computer, but the wifi is 300 down

i forgot what i pay for, havent tested wired directly to the modem from computer for a while. wired to my ps4 is 340mb though

what exactly is the powerline plugged into?
the wall, an extension cord or outlit splitter or UPS?

the wall. i read that a power bar/ext cord or anything else would lower the quality. havent found a difference from using one or the other though
