Have a lenovo y50-70 with the default dogshit 1TB HDD (might even be a hybrid with boot ssd I think?) It's been slow for a while but last night I was playing cs:go and then all the renders on screen were just black boxes and the game froze, so I restarted the computer and got disc errors and immediatly went to windows repair. After this boot, cpu usage was 100% for basically ever, the computer is essentialy usuable, takes 5 mins to load anything. I put it in safe mode, didn't help so I reset and booted the computer and left it on desktop for an hour and came back and its a little better now, so I ran chkdsk, but for some reason I can't use event window to look at the results, so I used HD Tune, and theres no immediate health errors, but if you benchmark it, I get around 112 transfer then it bottoms to 0 and fails the run after ~15 seconds. I'm going to get a new ssd today and just ignoring it now mainly just want to make sure that its the HD thats dead and not the cpu/gpu etc. and can I get the data back from this POS easily using an external adapter?

How could we tell without testing it ourselfs.
It all really depends whats wrong with it... heads, motor, etc.
start by not using the drive till u go to pull data then use these...
any of these to pull data (+ spinrite if needed) but imo sounds like you ain't going to pull all ur data so target what you need.
