Hey all.
Bought my new sapphire radeon rx 5700 xt few days ago and its crashing windows. Seems like its pretty common issue, discussed for few days in AMD graphic subforum.
So how it happens:
Screen just freezes and goes black after few seconds when im playing Apex Legends ( could be just start of match or 30 min of playing), i hear sounds and notifications but nothing on my screen (i dont play any games but Apex and aim trainer now, so i didnt check in other games)
Only one way to get out of that freeze is to hold PC power button for 5-7 seconds and shut it down.

My setup is:
Asus z87-k
i7-4770k (boosted to 4,25 it works stable for sure)
16gb DDR3 @ 1600mhz
Win 10 PRO x64
Latest windows and driver (there is only one driver for 5700 xt yet)

I made that topic to let know anyone who wanted to buy that card, dont do it! Waif for driver fix! Its have been a week since driver release and there is still no fix

p.s. i know buying new devices so early is not a smart thing but i was so excited when i got my box with card
also there was much " overwies " and " rtx 2070 vs rx 5700 xt test" in youtube so i believed it would be great

p.p.s what if i install 5700 (not XT version) of driver? should it work on lower speeds?
Looks like 5700 is stable, there is no reports about it in any forums

p.p.p.s it doesnt throttle and it not making noises. also checked temps with AIDA and it usually not going higher then 60-65 even after 30 mins of playing apex on ultras

Hear it throttles with stock cooler as well.
shit card is shit.

Stupid question but did you remove drivers from your old card?

Other than just waiting for the next driver, you might try undervolting a bit. Also might try a "clean" driver install, like this....



DDU Instructions - AMD
1. Get this program, here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose: AMD, then choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the AMD driver ( that you saved to your desktop in step #2) ...to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

i tried undervolting, boosting, fresh windows reinstalling, driver reinstalling (ddu with safe mode few times), playing with almost all settings
nothing helps
regardless all i got crashes
random RPM, random temperature, random moment

Might check your power supply voltages. ??

There was driver update (though forums says it didnt help at all, but i tried it)
i tried AIDA stress test with new driver and my system was stable ( 12 minutes ) ( i tried stress test yesterday with old driver too and it was stable also..)
only one thing was little bit unhealthy, the +12v showed only 11.77-11,80v

GPU was at:

Core - 1,062v
mem - 0,850v
SoC - 0,850v
GP temp - 70-72 C
Hotspot temp - 87-90 C
2750 RPM (55%)
and maximum power was at 162 WT ( another strange thing, yesterday maximum power was at 203 WT)
p.s. i little bit undervolted (as said on that screenshot https://i.imgur.com/k0B7PEO.png )
will try a system with new driver today, hope all that things will help

That doesn't sound TOO bad. But maybe check it with HWMonitor... it has a maximum and minimum for each of the three voltages. I believe it keeps track until you reboot the computer.

/e On AIDA64... where you "configure" the On SCreen Display... you can set it to monitor the power supply voltages... ON the OSD.



Otherwise...if you never had this issue with your old vid card...maybe the problem IS the Sapphire 5700 XT. Generally when buying vid cards, we try to stick with the more well known companies like EVGA, ASUS, MSI, etc.
If it was me, and if I didn't have the problem before with my old card... I would just return it.

But ya never really know with AMD vid cards. A lot of them in the past 2-3 years were wonky when first released, until they got the drivers working properly.

Nothing helped
i even reconnected 6+8 pin connectors from different lines of my PSU
first game crashed my pc today
guess i should refund and buy rtx 2070 for almost same money

An RTX 2070 will beat the 5700 anyway. Also, Zalman isn't really known for the quality of their power supplies. They are mainly a CPU cooler company.
The 700W Zalman power supplies, only get a 7.2/10 rating on JonnyGURU.com, which is pretty crappy.
