Just wondering what pieces of hardware can be infected by malware? Besides hard-drive and graphics card?
thanks

It's very rare on the consumer level, but the BIOS (firmware) of any piece of hardware CAN be infected.

Something like RAM or Vram can be temporarily infected. But since it's volatile storage, w/e IS inside it, dies with a power off.

Anything with machine code could theoretically be manipulated.

As above said, anything with code (even the likes of microcode and other hw-level instruction sets) can in theory be maliciously tampered with.
It is, however, immensely unlikely and isn't really worth worrying about as a regular enduser.

What's your reason for asking? Just wondering if it's because you're experiencing anything out of the ordinary.

How though do you think malware broke your gpu exactly?
Unless its crypto mining malware I see no realistic way of it damaging hardware.
Even then malware that generally mines does so in tiny amounts as to not be noticed.
If a pc begins to be unusable to the end user the end user generally replaces/fixes it thus rendering the malware useless.

It seems way more probable you broke it yourself doing something stupid (EG:bad bios flash) or the part simply died/was defective or damaged by other hardware like PSU..

I think you should really read these articles or use google better.
From 20+ years of fixing pc's I personally have never come across malware that physically damaged hardware on a level that caused it to stop functioning permanently.
Others in the field would say the same cause the truth is its so much work for no gain unless were talking about attacks on nations/people of power which serves a greater
purpose in the eyes of the attacker, even then they're people of importance and interest, you on the other hand I doubt are one of these people of interest.
