this is what mine got up to about 20-30 mins ago

im not super tech savvy and almost 100degrees Celsius seems a bit high

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2208 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

it usually runs between 3.8-3.9ghz

TJUNCTION
100°C

Assume laptop, lift it up a bit or get a cooling pad, consider Liquid metal/better paste

That's pretty hot for 40% usage. Might want to check temps with different program, like Speccy or HWMonitor.

Get some cans of compressed air and blow the dust out. And don't necessarily rely on w/e temperature program you're using.
Try one of those I mentioned... they're free.

If after cleaning and using a decent temp program, you still have temps like that... then yeah, find a disassembly youtube for your make and model, and apply better thermal paste.

What IS the make and model of your laptop?

If that is a question....then yes...there are videos on how to do it on youtube. You have to be very careful with laptop disassembly, but it's doable.

But we need to know how old the laptop is. And we need to see temps from a DECENT temp program. I don't want you to start ripping apart your laptop, because some "unknown" temp program tells you it's too hot.

You're asking us for a lot of answers, but not really giving us the information we need to suggest solutions or possible causes.

sorry, the laptop is only a few months old. the first program I used to check the temps(last night) was the built in omen interface, I downloaded Speccy last night after king atrhur suggested to and the numbers were very similar. it is not running as hot currently.

Being as it's under warranty don't open it. Return it for repair ...
Look around and see if that's normal temps for that model an consider returning it and getting one with better thermals.
Tbh if that's normal operation your only going to have issues down the road.
If your going to keep it your going to need to open it to fix it though you'll void your warranty.

You supplied enough info disregard Ghot.
