Looking for something to carry for work. I work in the kitchen and travel by public transportation (nyc) so need something light to travel with.

I'm looking at yoga 730, hp spectre x360 and or a surface book 2..

budget would love to be under 1200 if possible, but more at the 800-1000 range

any suggestions?

Why do you need to bring a laptop to a kitchen job?

I'm an executive chef. There's no office for my menu development and food costing. We just opened a 2nd restaurant so the last thing I want to do at home is more work after a 15 hr day

Sounds like shitty building design. How the hell do you do food orders?
Just go get something at best buy for 500 that's got an ssd, you dont really need high performance for basic office work.

Like I said I'm in nyc, most restaurants Are the size of a 2 bedroom apartment ;) size isn't everything if you know what you're doing.

I'm not looking at basics because it's a taxable work expense, so there's no need to buy something basic when I can get the next step up.

i'd recommend a surface.. i have the surface go myself and its really sweet.. such small pc its amazing imo

but u probably want something better with bigger screen with that budget, so i think the surface pro or surface book would be a good choice

iirc the book has a gpu and extra battery in the keyboard, so more a 2in1 then the pro/go which is basically a tablet

i was definitely looking at a surfacebook but the price range is just a bit higher than what i'm looking at. taken for granted i really like that but its just out of my expense range

yea its expensive and i gotta say im not really a fan of its 2in1 style where the hardware is actually in 2 parts.. the pro is cheaper iirc and its more convenient imo just having a tablet with a keybord u can take off
