So I just upgraded my PC over the black friday/cyber monday period, and I now have some leftover parts:
Intel i5-6600k
Gigabyte gaming mobo of some sort
Noctua cpu cooler
Crappy 60hz 1080p monitor that's over 10 yrs old

I was thinking of gifting these old parts to either a friend or family member for xmas, but it's kind of a crappy gift on its own because you'd have to also buy peripherals, case, psu, ram, storage, OS, and a gpu, which would run you anywhere from $250-500+

A cheap way to fill out this list would be buying used parts off of CL, ebay, or wherever else people trade parts (are there other places?). But I am wondering how often people get burned on the secondary market.

So... what are you or your friends' experiences buying used parts? Good idea? Or should you just buy them new?

you could look into refurbished models from reputable outlets like newegg or amazon.

i sell and buy used parts on reddit all the time, certain things I'd prefer spending the extra for brand new.

There might be someone who would spend 12,000 of their 15,200.01 fg for your used 6600k if you put it up on RLT.

fg is worthless to me lol. I just gave away 27k yesterday.

I'd be happy to buy the parts I need /w this fg, however, especially if 15k fg can buy a roughly $150 CPU (were I to sell on ebay or whatever).

I still think it’s a good gift if they want a custom computer, if someone bought me half of something I wanted I wouldn’t look at it like they made it so I have to spend more money but rather they made it so I can use less money to get what I want.
