This laptop on best buy is on sale for 1k usd

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-tuf-gaming-fx705gm-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-512gb-solid-state-drive-black/6293624.p?skuId=6293624

8th gen i7
16gb ram
512 ssd
gtx1060 (granted its 3gb still massively better then the 1050s on offer in this price range)

The display is on par with the others in this range which is not that great.

What am I missing? Not so tech savvy but is this going to have abysmal thermals and such to the point where it cant really perform to its on paper specs?

Most all laptops in the 1k range have mostly 1050/ti or HDD drives.

I am not so well versed in the different types of ssd.

Is this some sort of the worst kind of ssd which is why its so cheap?

Not sure what price it shows for you, but its 1400 for me and that seems almost on the high side for a 1060 laptop, but reasonable considering that side ssd and ram. All laptops will thermal throttle under high load after just a few minutes.

1K is about what it is worth considering it's a bit to big and heavy for millennials, and only has a 4 cell battery.

/e Might want to check that you're not looking at an open box laptop. I see it as $1399 as well. It DOES say: Open-Box: from $1,122.99

The 1.4k price tag is pre discount. Granted I think they purposely bloated that for the black friday discount. But when you sign into your bestbuy account it says black friday discount price as 999$

I guess I just want to ask if there are some known obvious things Im missing. I dont know technical details but when when I was looking at some youtube videos of the previous laptop in the TUF series people

said that the machine was under powered or something, and that the spec advertised could not possibly be reached etc most of which made little sense to me.

Also, the heating issues with "gaming" laptops is always there which causes everything to wear quickly etc.

Generally, people these days want a 15.6" that weighs 5 pounds. This is a 17.3 inch that weighs almost 6 pounds. It's probably been sitting on Best Buy's shelves for over a year. Like I said, millennials don't like big heavy laptops.

/e I mean there could be other issues, like it runs too hot or something. It could just be a bad design in that way. It might be a very early 1060 laptop. Standard rule of thumb, even on Black Friday is... you get what you pay for. :)

Best buy does have a 14 day return policy, so if you want, grab it, put it through it's paces and see how it runs. I mean there's always the chance that some company, one day will actually sell something great, for a decent price on Black Friday.

Thin laptops run hotter than the thick and heavy laptops. If you plan to game for long periods, I don't recommend a thin laptop like that.
