I am looking to build a new PC in the next 6 months. Do you think it is better to do now or wait?

considering tariffs, new technology coming, black friday etc.

I will spend up to 1200$ including windows but not mouse/keyboard/monitor. Can buy tomorrow or willing to wait up to next March.

This is my current build which has been going strong since 2012. I assume none of it is relevant anymore.

i5-2500k cpu
coolermaster hyper 212+
Rosewill Blackhawk Mid Tower
MSI Z77A G45 LGA 1155 Intel Mobo
G. Skill Ares 8 GB ram
Rosewill Hive 750W powersupply
Mushkin Chronos 120GB SSD / 1 TB HDD
XFX double D FX-785A-CDFC Radeon HD 7850 2GB Graphics

Thanks for your input!

You have a decent build. I would wait till next March.

If you simply must buy something, get a new vid card. Like a GTX 1070 or even a 1070 Ti.

Ghot,

Thanks for your input! I think you had input on the build in 2012.

Is there something coming between now and March that will make a big difference?

everything is out
nothing is out in 6months
maybe a counter amd cpu

only thing you might regret is prices
so man up and buy a 2080ti

The hardware is older, but if you aren't having struggles with what you on a regular basis, I wouldn't worry about upgrading.
If you wan't to spend some money now, vid cards are a good investment as they aren't tied to any specific type of system, so you can transfer them to a new build down the road.
1070/ti isn't bad, you could also look into the new 2070. It will be a bit more pricey but part of that is newer technology that isn't yet implemented. It would be more of a future proofing thing, but the RTX 2070 performs about on par with a 1080 for reference.

right now is the time to buy i'd say, prices on gpu and ram have come down and new cpu's and gpu's is just released, so if u have the cash now go ahead..

i5 2500k is still solid, but easy upgrading with a 8/9gen intel or a ryzen

and for gpu i'd say look for a 1070/1080..
