Just fishing for opinions I would like to do photo editing/video editing, gaming ( mostly esport type stuff and a few AAA games I don't expect to run like crysis at max lol ) and a bit of music editing + going into a course in sept for It they said I don't need a computer but I would like one to learn CompTIA at home whatever that requires.

the prospects I currently have are these ( it has to be a laptop I can't build a rig currently. )

ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition

ASUS FX503VM

Dell

Nitro 5

Also just curious what is more desired a 1050 ti 4gig vram or a 1060 3gig vram? wouldn't more vram be wanted to run faster?

Thanks to whoever takes the time to look through and give me advice

/e If it were me, I would choose things, like, what I have chosen here.

1060 6GB, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD/ 1TB HDD, latest series CPU due to Microsoft Win 10 compatibility BS, 15.6 inch screen.

sadly those are American prices and websites mine are Canadian we don't get as good of deals, the lowest one there the predator that's only 1200 American is 2200 in Canada plus taxes so like 2500 going back to school so I don't have expendable funds like that lol im looking around like 1500 with taxes so 1250-1300 would be max budget. ( Canadian )

I appreciate you taking the time to find a few options for me though <3

Well, then I would get the Dell, it's easy to add RAM to a Dell. Or the Nitro.

Stay away from combined SSHDD's and aim for 16GB RAM

/e Either that or just take a road trip to the US. :)

oh good to know, any specific reason? I was trying to find ones with an ssd and hd

I believe ram is easy to install though right just like plug it in and done for the ones with only 8 gb I was assuming I would just add another stick to the ones not at 16,

the 120hz with both Asus isn't a huge selling point? I was leaning towards the rog atm before attempting to fish around for opinions mainly because I've heard Acer isn't a well-built brand compared to dell and Asus.

Lol I've been highly considering the idea of just crossing into buffalo its only 40 minutes away.

SSHDD is a HDD with a teeny SSD "built into it". Sometimes they are called: Hybrid. They don't perform as well as a separate SSD and HDD.

For editing you want 16GB of RAM. Personally, if your main use will be editing go for a good IPS screen, and don't worry about the 120Hz.

For the vid card, get the 1050 Ti or the 1060/6GB. I would stay away from the 1060/3GB.

/e You probably have a 60Hz screen of some kind that you can test on. If 60Hz doesn't bother you, don't worry about a faster screen. I have no issues with a 60Hz screen, but I ran into a guy who would get nauseous playing an old racing game on a 60Hz screen. It's rare but it does happen. :)

I just assumed 120 is better all around especially for gaming although I've never used a 120hz screen so I have no idea how much better or if I'd even notice a difference Lol

alright mate, I appreciate your input :)
I think I might go with the dell and just add a ram stick when I get a chance

A lot depends on the games, or so ppl say. First person shooters seem to benefit form higher refresh rate. But wait a few hours, there will be other folks coming online in 8 hours or so.

decided to test the nitro
the dell was no return/refunds so that seemed like a redflag and the reviews on that model I was seeing were a lot of possible problems I didn't want to deal with if I couldn't return it

nitro so far isn't bad runs pretty fast still holding out for something even better over the next two weeks if nothing comes along I wont feel bad about holding onto the nitro though.

runs siege on high no problems

cs go on max no problem

haven't attempted to edit much as I don't want to get all the cracks on this computer if im returning it.
