I do have a server rack & switch, saw a few for around 75.00 with old hardware just wondering if one would be decent for learning purposes! :)

The only stuff I would really keep on it is what's currently on my github I work on updating my Linux boxes through github & deploy it through python scripts that check my current file version with what's on my github then updates as necessary. I have been working with Linux for the last few years but never really done any server related stuff.

I would like to get an it job in the next year or so.. going the self taught route & doing the exams during tax time next year. Basically just looking to get some experience that would help me land a job at a smaller company & work my way up from there! :)

Edit: I do have an old pc I could use but would rather have everything on the rack than on the floor :)

Server racks tend to be power hungry and generate tons of heat. If youre cool with that, go for it. Imo the racks arent going to teach you anything.

What are you trying to learn? Just use a VM for hands-on experience.

Just never really used server / ssh.

Got my old pc set up with arch Linux as a base & centos in a vm. Probably not the best idea going with arch but reading the wiki and upgrading my main pc before updating the other one. :)
