stick to 8400 and upgrade gpu to 1070/ti, it'll benefit you more in the long run

don't overlook the 8350k in favor of a locked chip. It's basically a dirt cheap 7600k on a newer platform. No real benefit to 6 cores over 4 in gaymes, especially 6 lower clocked ones.

this.
also would need to pay more for a better mobo to make the OC worth it, but OP has no clue what that is and where to start so much better spent on 8400.

sensitive johnny is back, welcome back!
OP said "idk" for wanting stock cooling or planning to oc on his other thread, i was referring to that.

Maybe in max frames, but i shouldn't clock speed win out on min frames between 4 and 6?
Min frames are more important for the gameplay experience, not to mention either would be fine with a mere 1060 6gb.

the games that might benefit from more than 4 cores will be gpu bottlenecked for sure, so there's no reason to pick the i5-8400 if not streaming or trying to get away with gaming + some other form of semi-heavy multitasking.

But especially games that use 1-2 coresl perform significantly better, especially poorly optimized ones that wiill be cpu bottlenecked all the time, such as any mmo, path of exile, warframe, any 4x game, etc. 8400 can't compete in those, and gpu bottleneck will kick in with a 1060 either way otherwise.

So... I think the 8350k with an oc is better. Use the money saved from a 8400 on a Z series mobo and maybe have a little left over for some Hot Squatch Sticks if they ever start making then again  .

Ur spewing non sense, 8400 is like 10 bux more than 8350k, Ur not getting a decent z mobo for that difference. On top of spending more on a cooler to Oc
8400 has 2 more cores at lower clock. On turbo it's like 3.8.
8400 performs better on mmos compared to the 8350k.8350k will perform better in games like starcraft but the difference is negligent

U might as well say that 8700 will perform worse than a 8350k cuz clock timing is lower than 8350k
