I have been looking at some of the suggestions here by people.

Currently using: lenovo ideapad 700 16gb ram, 1tb hard drive, 7th gen i7, nvidia gtx960.

I play games but Im also a game developer/programmer so focus is on a solid machine not just for browsing/streaming.

Im having some issues with this laptop and Im looking to change it.

I have some questions. Firstly, Im relatively new to the states. I noticed a lot of the suggested links were from newegg.com

Q1 - Obviously newegg seems reliable since you guys are suggesting it. But is it because the prices are cheaper there as compared to say, local bestbuy?
How are the prices cheaper, whats the catch? Do I get financing options at newegg or do I have to pay lump sum? What about warranty? I felt that the
prices at bestbuy were substantially more (the cheapest msi that interested me was 1.4k but the links in the previous thread were much cheaper).

Q2 - How does the newer 8th gen i5 compare with the 7th gen i7? Anything with 8th gen i7 is going to be out my range. At the same time I notice the
8th gen i5 is cheaper. I went to best buy and the guy was telling me that its supposed to be 25% faster then the 7th gen i7 .... which Im not sure I believe.

Q3 - I need a big hard drive so pure ssd options are not for me. But I need quick i/o and boost up and such since Im constantly having to wait a long time
on my current machine and it feels overall a bit lethargic so I think I want one of those which have both type of hard drives.

To what extent should I consider the make/model? i.e I know MSI has a fancy reputation especially for gaming. But its similarly a little expensive as well, consider the laptop below same exact spec except no ssd and roughly the same price.

Q4 - excuse my lack of knowledge regarding hardware. I have used friends laptops and such which are ssd or special pc rigs made with ssd for programming and I was so impressed with how fluent and smooth they were with everything.
If I get a laptop which has i.e 1tb + 256ssd, does that mean that only for example the windows and the programs in the ssd run fast? Does that mean, for example if Im working on a project I should put it in my ssd memory? What about
running a game for example?

Generally online prices will be cheaper, because online establishments don't have to pay overhead like brick and mortar stores do.

The newer processor are a teeny bit faster.

Yes, you want an SSD and say a 1TB HDD for storage purposes.

As for SSD and HDD, the stuff ON the SSD will be way faster. Some folk go the cheaper route with SSD and HDD. Some just get a far larger SSD, but that gets expensive.

The best thing is just list youir budget and what country you are in, and what programs or games you wish to run, and we can find you the best bang for your buck.

The first one has 8th gen i7 + 1050 ti + 128 ssd and the other has 7th gen i7 + 1060 + 256ssd (the one he bought).

its a 50 bucks difference - as i understand from my novice understanding theres a substantial difference in 1060 gtx vs 1050 gtx. Is the difference in the generation from 7th to 8th substantial enough to sway me to get the one with the lighter graphics?

Also, is it ridiculous to have an option which has i5 8th gen + 1060 gtx? Bare in mind i need a laptop for gaming/ game development / programming -> android studios/web frameworks.

not sure about how reliable this is, but why does a i5 8th gen feel like a free dinner? I mean its supposedly better then 7th gen i7 the different between the 8th gen i5 and i7 isnt big enough to warrant the extra bucks for i7 and yet 8th gen i5 is cheapest out of the three?

You want the one with the 256GB SSD. 128 is just too small.

You still haven't listed your budget. That is the most important consideration. I can find even better laptops for more money.

I set a budget of 1000 usd, sorry i thought it was a little bit obvious with the laptops we were discussing.

There is wiggle room, can go up and down a little bit.

This one should be a bench mark in the sense that - its specifications check a lot of boxes for me. 16 gb ram, need ssd/hd, needs good processor and graphics card.

What I want to now see is can i get similar specs for a cheaper price OR can i get better specs for a similar price? The two MSI laptops, granted on newegg, are in the ball park and heavy contenders.

Im pretty dead set on the ram and I need a little ssd for sure but not pure ssd. It leaves wiggle room in the processor and the graphics.

Im trying to find the best bang for buck in the new i5 v old i7 v new i7 and the 1050 gtx v 1050 gtx ti v 1060.

Yeah you can get a 1050Ti or a 1050, they won't game as well.

Thjis is why I asked you for budget, and what programs and what games.

I am a game developer and I like to play games as well. Im not crazy into gaming but i still like to occasionally play the newest games that come out or high graphic games. i.e watch dogs/dying light/pubg/fifa.

When Im making games occasionally Ill optomize assets and such badly, maybe throw in too many which can sometimes hit the graphics card hard. (Im currently using gtx 960).

I use softwares such as Unity/Unreal/maya/blender/photoshop/eclipse/Android Studio/WMware and run xcode inside it/visual studios.

I want my laptop to be fast in general, as far as programming operations are concerned - not lag while im building apks/scenes/or running multiple softwares on it. I also like to play heavy graphic intensive games
the ones mentioned above are currently in my laptop and more.
