Well, if it helps, I got a 30" Dell U3011. Look it up, find it's specs. It's so bright, I have the brightness set to ZERO and it's still a tad bright.

/e It's... 370 cd/m2

My xps 15 (9560 1080p) can display close to 400nits. Which is usable outside. What model is your XPS 15?
Ofc the 625nits on my phone is more pleasent to use outside.

Edit: Oh BTW 1 nit = 1 cd/m²

i got the 9560 as well but its a 4k touch. the display was measured in the lab of a buddy who does photoshop stuff. came to 220cd/m² and its absolutely not useable in the outside. dunno what nits are but i kinda need something to replace that panel. best would be matte as well.

Somethings seems to be wrong with your panel. It's rated to 350cd/m² and i've seen multiple tests where it reaches 360ish.
Try to uninstall Dell Premier color.

You welcome :D
Now there is definitely no reason to change out the display. Should be one of the brightest panel at 15.6" at that aspect ratio.
Next step should be something like Windows Surface book, Macbook's and the upcoming Huawei Matebook X Pro. Which lays between 450-500nits. These laptops are more unusual at 3:2 and 16:10 aspect ratios.
