I need to get a NAS and I started looking around to get some idea about what to buy.
I'm looking for something basic, 2 HDD, Clouding with the chance to use it also as a regular storage for misc documents.


So, for now I've picked three brands:

Western Digital
My Cloud EX2 Ultra

Synology
Synology Diskstation DS218 PLAY

QNAP
QNAP 231p

I'm open to other options as well.
The budget, including the two disks, would be 300-400€, more or less.
Looking for something reliable and not too complex to menage.

No plan on streaming from the device?

Not really unless occasionally.

I need to store works/projects mainly which sometimes may contain videos (rarely).
However that's going to be a copy of my local HDD so I would actually stream them directly from local disk.

Another feature I'd need is to menage two "kind" of folders separately.

1 - As a cloud. I have the main folder on my PC and the NAS upgrades the copy folder as a regular cloud.

2 - As an archive. To stores old projects I don't need to have on my PC anymore and I just move there to free space.

Came in here looking for Illmatic, stillmatic or distant relatives.

QNAP or Synology, IMO. I know QNAP transcodes video on the fly. Synology may, as well.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind.

Any technical reason? Or just personal preference?
