I'm trying to get decent internet on my HP Pavilion touchscreen. If I'm plugged into ethernet I get upwards of 100 mbps. I disconnect the ethernet and with the computer 2-3 foot away from the router I get 15 mbps... any further than that and it's 1-3 mbps.

I've moved the computer and the router a couple times, I can't get the router any closer, it's only about 10' away. I think I need a new network card but I'm not sure, you guys have any idea what's going on? The computer is only 3 or 4 months old.

Is it just the laptop that has issues?

Grab the latest RTL drivers right from the source, see if that improves speed. http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=62&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

If that doesn't work, the Wi-Fi antenna inside the unit might have a loose connection. I've seen antenna issues cause drastic drops in speed/signal.
